Geri Murdock has been a driving instructor for over a decade. When I asked her if she enjoyed her profession she said that there was nothing she would rather be doing. To her, teaching people how to become safe, confident drivers is a challenging and highly satisfying way to earn her daily bread and butter.

Five years after leaving school, Geri still had no idea what she wanted to do with her life in terms of a career. Then she was made redundant from yet another boring job as a machine operator, A _______

The advisor she spoke to suggested various office jobs before he mentioned the possibility of her becoming a driving instructor. Geri says the moment he did so, a light seemed to come on inside her head. Having assured him that she had no criminal record and that she held a full driving licence, the advisor provided Geri with all the details of what the job entailed, fully-qualified instructor, B _________ Within a year she was a fully-qualified instructor

In Geri’s opinion, teaching teenagers is the most rewarding part of her job. She says that she loves the fact that they are so eager to learn, but admits that occasionally she has to deal with over-confident young clients C _________

According to Geri, these youngsters have already learnt some basic driving techniques, D _________. Having a little knowledge can be dangerous because it tends to make learners over-confident and any bad driving habits they have picked up have to be corrected, E ___________

Sitting in a car alongside nervous learners all day is probably not the sort of job F _________. However, Geri insists that her decision to become a driving instructor is one that she has never regretted. She enjoys having a flexible schedule and, although her working day is probably longer than most people’s, nothing gives her more satisfaction than seeing yet another one of her pupils pass the driving test with flying colours.
