Понимание структурно-смысловых связей в тексте

The Great Discoveries

It started a long time ago when people were interested in discovering new lands and wanted to find out something new about the world.

The first big breakthrough in travelling is The Great silk road. It was the caravan route A________. The road was used for transporting silk from China for trading. In the 10" century A.D. the route from the Varangians to the Greeks appeared. Russian sellers traded with Constantinople and Scandinavia B __________ and to bring all the goods in safety.

Such well-known explorers as Bartglomeu Dias and Peru da Covilha made their first attempts to discover unknown ways.

Christopher Columbus decided C _________. And a new continent America was discovered. But Columbus even didn’t understand D ________ and what role his voyage played in the world's history.

Some time later Vasco da Gama with his flotilla went under Africa and came to India, such а way he discovered the Cape of Good Hope. In the 16" century Fernan Magellan, E _________ and didn’t come home, made the tour round the Earth and finally proved that the Earth is round. In the 18” century James Cook was sent for round the world trip that’s how he discovered Australia and New Zealand. In the next century Russian expedition, F _______ reached Antarctica in 16 January 1820 on the sloops “Vostok” and “Mirny”.

Without any doubt we can’t belittle |the role of the Great Geographical Discoveries. On the one hand their era shows the greatness of the human mind but on the) other hand it presents the terrific aftermath of colonization.
