Task 1. You are going to read the text aloud. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, and then be ready to read it aloud. Remember that you will not have more than 2 minutes for reading aloud.

A helicopter is a type of aircraft. Unlike planes, they can move in different directions, keep still in the air and land on buildings. The first helicopter was created in 1937. It is believed that there are approximately 45,000 helicopters operating around the world today.

Modern machines vary in size and perform different tasks. Transport helicopters can lift and replace heavy items. Medical helicopters transport patients from distant areas to hospitals. They are very useful, especially in case of a natural disaster. Food packets, water, medicines and clothes are dropped from the air to people on the ground when the place cannot be reached by_road. Helicopters are also used to fight fires by delivering tanks filled with water.
