Task 1. Imagine that you are preparing a project with your friend. You have found some interesting material for the presentation and you want to read this text to your friend. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, then be ready to read it out aloud. You will not have more than 1.5 minutes to read it.

Biodiversity loss is the disappearance of plant and animal species worldwide. Healthy ecosystems provide us with many essentials that we often take for granted, such as clean air, fresh water, good quality soil, and plentiful harvest. However, as a result of human activity a great number of species are going extinct 1,000 times faster than natural rates. Since living organisms interact in dynamic ecosystems, the disappearance of just one species can have a far-reaching impact on the food chain. Some of the major threats to biodiversity today are population increase, deforestation, over exploitation of natural resources. If we’re not careful, future generations might not get to enjoy the diverse plant and animal wildlife. Imagine a world without the splendid beauty and novelty of songbirds, majestic giraffes, wildflowers, thrilling sharks, or exuberant rainforests.
